When should I book my fittings?

A wedding dress usually needs more visits than a prom dress or everyday alterations. Book the first fitting once the dress has arrived and you have the shoes you will wear. Most dresses need two or three fittings. The diary fills up in wedding season, so earlier is easier than the month of the wedding.

  1. Step 1

    First fitting

About 12 weeks before the wedding

Bring the dress, the exact shoes, and the undergarments you will wear on the day. The dress is pinned here, the bustle is planned with the hem, and the work is agreed. A straightforward dress can start nearer 8 weeks. Fitting many months ahead can mean the fit changes and the dress has to be done again.

  2. Step 2

    Second fitting

About 6 to 3 weeks before the wedding

Try the alterations, then walk, sit, and lift your arms. Small changes can still be pinned. If someone else will fasten the bustle on the day, bring them so they can practise. A straightforward dress may not need another visit after this.

  3. Step 3

    Final fitting

About 2 weeks before the wedding

This is the last try-on before the dress goes home. Check the length in your shoes, the bustle, and that nothing feels tight. Bring the veil if you will wear one. Do not leave the first fitting until this week.

  4. Step 4

    Collection

About 1 to 2 weeks before the wedding

Collect the dress with time to try it at home. It should be pressed and ready to travel. Do not leave collection until the day before the wedding.

Every dress is different, and a busy season can mean a longer wait. A bridesmaid dress or another wedding-party outfit often needs fewer visits. If you are unsure, contact the studio before you book.
